Isabel Granada to receive posthumous award
MANILA, Philippines — Singer and actress Isabel Granada, who recently died of brain aneurysm in Qatar, will receive a posthumous award during the 12th anniversary celebration of the Eastwood Walk of Fame on November 21.
During the celebration, 19 movie industry movers and shakers will also receive recognition. Among those who will unveil their stars at the Philippines’ version of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame are Solenn Heussaff, Karen Davila, Matteo Guidicelli, Anthony Taberna, Jake Zyrus, Empoy Marquez, and Regal Films’ Mother Lily Monterverde.
Also to receive a star is pop rock band Parokya ni Edgar, whose frontman, Chito Miranda, took to Twitter to express his sentiments on the recently cancelled Asean Music Festival held at the Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati City. The concert was cancelled after the crowd got rowdy, leading to the hospitalization of at least nine people. Chito’s band was the only one that performed.
The Southern Police District estimated 15,000 fans jammed into the event.
Parokya ni Edgar also led Jack TV’s recent MADFest 2017 held at the Circuit Makati Events Grounds last week. The concert featured 12 hours of non-stop music.
With the theme “Juan Sound. One Playground. A Celebration of Breakthrough Filipino Talents,” Chito and the gang were in the mood that night, playing 10 songs, to the delight of thousands of concertgoers.
The band opened their set with the timeless “Buloy” followed by their ‘90s hits like “Silvertoes” and “Sayang,” among others.
The crowd wanted to hear “Bagsakan” but without Gloc 9 and Francis Magalona, Chito selected two watchers from the crowd to sing Gloc’s and Francis’ parts. The band ended their set with the song “Halaga.”
Besides Parokya ni Edgar, big time OPM bands such as Sandwich, Hale, Tanya Markova, Gab and John of Urbandub, Imago, Mayonaise, Kjwan, Hilera, Sud, Ben & Ben, Veronica and I, Ang Bandang Shirley, and Curtis Smith, among others, lit up the stage that night.
