Isabel comatose in Qatar, husband confirms
ANGELES CITY— Isabel Granada (photo) was reported yesterday to be in coma in a hospital in Doha, Qatar, where she was part of a team guesting for the Philippine Trade and Tourism Conference.
This city’s Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, a close friend of Granada’s first husband city councilor Jericho Aguas, confirmed this to The STAR in a text message. “She’s in coma,” according to the text message from Aguas who is believed to be divorced from Isabel.
Late afternoon yesterday, Isabel’s American husband Arnel Cowley released an official statement seeking prayer for Granada.
“Please pray for my wife Isabel who is in ICU at Doha, Qatar in critical condition. She suffered from a brain hemorrhage which indicates aneurism and in turn affected her heart,” Cowley said.
He said his wife “collapsed suddenly without warning yesterday afternoon (Tuesday in the Philippines) and is still not responding.
“I have released this statement to end inaccurate speculations during this hard time for myself and the rest of the family and I would also like to thank the people who are supporting me here in Doha,” he added.
News about Granada first surfaced after her friend, Sherilyn Tan, posted on Instagram an appeal for prayers for her.
“I would like to ask for healing prayers for my dear friend, sis Isabel Granada. She was rushed to the Heart Hospital in Hamad Medical Corp. in Qatar. I have not communicated with her family yet; I’m waiting for updates. But the initial info I got is from our dear Robby Tarroza,” she said.
Sherilyn quoted Tarroza as saying that Isabel was in “critical condition,” as she cited “massive bleeding in the head.”
In an update, Sherilyn said Isabel was in coma and quoted a nurse she interviewed that the actress has a series of heart attacks and aneurysm.
She also said that Isabel was up for “major operation.”
A poster from the Philippine trade and tourism conference indicated that Granada was to have a live performance at the Shangri-la Hotel in Doha last Oct. 20. It also cited “special guest speakers” that included Isabel, Trade and Industry Undersecretary Ruth Castelo, Dr. Alvin Ang and Dexter Villamin.
