James Reid nominated for MTV EMA Best Southeast Asia Act
MANILA, Philippines — Filpino singer-actor James Reid has been nominated for Best Southeast Asia Act at the 2017 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA), to be held in London on November 12.
Reid will be going against Faizal Tahir (Malaysia), Dam Vinh Hung (Vietnam), Isyana Sarasvati (Indonesia), Slot Machine (Thailand), The Sam Willows (Singapore) and the social wildcard winner, Palitchoke Ayanaputra (Thailand).
MTV’s website describes James as “not just an ordinary cutie.”
“He's smart and talented too!,” the music channel says of the Filipino singer-songwriter, actor, dancer, model, and now producer.
Since releasing his self-titled debut album in 2012, Reid has established his own music label, Careless Music Manila and has just dropped his new album, “Palm Dreams,” featuring “bass-boosted club bangers that could easily induce eargasm,” says MTV.
The music channel considers “Cool Down” (2017) as Reid’s biggest hit yet.
Last year, Filipino pop star Sarah Geronimo was also nominated for the same spot. Sarah and James have recently announced their team up for a movie.
Lovato, singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes, rockers The Killers and grime artist Stormzy are set to perform at the EMAs in London. The awards will also feature performances from Kesha and Camila Cabello. Rita Ora is due to host the November 12 ceremony at London's SSE Arena, Wembley.
MTV said Thursday that awards presenters will include "Game of Thrones" actress Natalie Dormer, teen star Madison Beer and actress Sabrina Carpenter.
Taylor Swift leads the race with nominations in six categories, including best video for "Look What You Made Me Do." Other multiple nominees include Mendes, Ed Sheeran and Kendrick Lamar.
Winners will be selected by fans across the continent. The EMAs, held in a different European city each year, were last held in London in 1996. — With reports from Associated Press
