James makes it to MTV EMA

Pinoy pop idol James Reid is an MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) 2017 nominee. MTV last week announced that the singer and actor is competing with other music stars in the Best Southeast Asian Act category wherein MTV honors the best of the region. This is Reid’s second time to be nominated and we are all hoping that he wins and carry Philippine pride to the top.

Reid, who is part-Australian, is one of the country’s biggest performing acts. He has conquered the movies in a series of box-office hits, TV with record-breaking drama series and music with several big-selling songs. He has accomplished these both on his own and as one-half of the highly bankable love team called JaDine with real life love Nadine Lustre.

James’ latest album release is Palm Dreams, a collection of club inspired originals. Most of the cuts included are his own compositions, while the album is released also on his own label, named Careless Music. The first singles released are Cool Down and Down Low.

Now back to the 2017 MTV EMA. Our James Reid is up against Malaysian rocker Faizal Tahir; Vietnamese pop star Dam Vinh Hung; soprano Isyana Sarasvati from Indonesia; Thai rock band Slot Machine; Singaporean pop band The Sam Willows; and pop star and TV host Palitchoke Ayanaputra who is also from Thailand.

For those of you wondering, why isn’t there a Korean act among nominees? Well, the Koreans are not in this category. Like the US and UK, the Chinese, Indian, Japanese and Korean music markets are so big by themselves that MTV has given them their own categories.

The winners of this year’s MTV EMA will be revealed in the grand all-star show that will be held at the SSE Arena Wembley London, United Kingdom on Nov. 12. Hosted by the lovely Rita Ora and now considered one of the most important global music events, the MTV EMA will be aired live locally by MTV Pinoy.
