Get ready to roar with Liam Gallagher as he belts out some of the greatest hits of British rock band Oasis. Liam will be in Manila for his much-anticipated one-night concert on Aug. 14 at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Parañaque City
The British rock star will take center stage in his debut local performance and treat fans to an expectedly full house with an exciting line-up of Oasis hits, such as Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back In Anger and Champagne Supernova.
Named as the greatest front man of all time in a reader poll conducted by Q Magazine in 2010, Liam has been acclaimed as the face of Oasis, whose tribute to The Beatles has made the band nearly as big and as influential as the Fab Four.
With its music and style, Oasis has been cited as a major influence and inspiration in the musical careers of many other well-known bands, such as The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Maroon 5 and Coldplay, among others.
Together with brother Noel at its helm, Liam steered the five-piece rock band from Manchester, England to greater heights of international popularity and success, ultimately becoming the defining musical act of his generation.
Oasis’ live act was distinguished by Noel’s proudly British lyrics, choruses that could make one’s throat clench and one’s heart ready to burst, and complemented by Liam’s sneering vocals and pissed-off posture, the cocktail of ego, camaraderie and one-upmanship that combined in making Oasis as entertaining and as volatile offstage as onstage.
Although all the tracks on the band’s seven albums that sold more than 71 million copies worldwide were written by Noel, it was Liam, as the group’s front man, who provided life and soul and turned into huge hits such songs as Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back in Anger and Champagne Supernova.
The band’s third album, Be Here Now, in 1997 set a new record as the fastest-selling album in UK chart history, while (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? attained greater success by becoming the third-selling album in British recording history.
Liam has won many accolades for his vocal contributions to Oasis, as well as his awesome presence that helped make the band a popular live act wherever it performed. However, his attitude also provoked much attention from the British press which often ran negative stories about his alleged behavior.
His controversial public disputes with his brother only heightened, instead of diminished the fans’ interest on Oasis and magnified its legendary stature. With his erratic behavior, distinctive singing style and abrasive attitude that have been the frequent subjects of media commentaries, Liam has remained one of the most recognizable figures in modern British music.
Liam’s singing voice has often been compared to that of John Lennon, leading him to admit that he has no clear influence in his music other than John and “music” itself. He has been known to incorporate many different forms, such as punk, indie and New Wave, and recently has explored elements of jazz during his stint with Beady Eye, the band he formed after Oasis broke up in 2009.
