Ex-Urbandub frontman excited to share stage with indie artists
MANILA, Philippines — Former Urbandub frontman Gabby Alipe is excited to share the stage with independent young bands and talents such as Autotelic, Sud, Jensens & The Flips, Conscious & The Godness, Milesexperience, Somedaydream, Ninno, She’s Only Sixteen and Reese Lansangan in the upcoming GetMusic Indie-Go concert to be held in Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena on May 20.
In a press statement, the concert's organizer, MCA Music, explains that it believes in the advocacy to support the latest and the best independent artists and groups the Philippines has to offer for them to elevate their status in the music scene.
Alipe, an MCA Music talent, said in a press conference that he believes in the project because the focus is not on him but in younger bands and talents because this is their generation.
“Nakaka-inspire how passionate they are with what they’re doing. Gutom na gutom kasi sila eh. Kaya, me, being an older artist na matagal na rin sa eksena, nakikita ko yung sarili ko sa kanila dati,” said the man behind the hit song, “First of Summer.”
Alipe also believed that playing in such a big venue like MOA Arena will elevate the morale of these young bands and make them strive for greatness even more. He noted that “This is an amazing lineup. They are the best of the best in this generation.”
With creative direction by Paolo Valenciano, the concert has also a cultural exchange component wherein Malaysia’s rock outfit, An Honest Mistake, will join the festivities.
Moreover, college bands such as STLO from University of the Philippines, Papeta from University of Sto, Tomas, The Cohens from Ateneo de Manila University, and Matty Juniosa from De La Salle University will be sharing the spotlight in the concert, in an effort by MCA Music to possibly discover the next big artists.
