Halo Halo Radio boosts Pinoy pop in the south
Pinoy music just got a very special boost with the launch of three radio stations in the South. These are DYUR 105.1 in Cebu, DYUR 97.1 in Davao and DYUE 103.5 in Zamboanga. They are collectively called Halo Halo Radio and the best thing about these three newcomers to the airlanes is that they only play Filipino music. Local recordings are in dire need of airplay and having three outlets on a continuous Pinoy streak all day and night provides a massive shot in the arm.
Halo Halo Radio plays everything Pinoy, of every kind and of every age. This means that listeners can come across both the classic songs of Pilita Corrales and today’s hot band, Sud. There are rock sounds ranging from Sampaguita to The Juans. There are romantic ballads from Jose Mari Chan to Michael Pangilinan. And of course, the timeless songs of Sharon Cuneta, Rico J. Puno, Ariel Rivera, Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Martin Nievera, Side A and many more from Pinoy Top 40 combined with the traditional radio staples, trending news, weather and showbiz chika-chika.
And the best thing about Halo Halo Radio is that while the stations may be broadcasting from the South, anybody from anywhere where there is wi-fi can access all of them in the Internet. This means that if you want to listen to Halo Halo Cebu while in Metro Manila, all that you have to do is go to http://halohaloradiocebu.viva.ph. And it is the same for Davao with http://halohaloradiodavao.viva.ph. And far off Zamboanga seems like a short ride away with http://halohalozamboanga.viva.ph. No need to be hungry for Pinoy music anymore. No need to be bogged down with Ed Sheeran and Drake and The Chainsmokers all day. Tune in to Halo Halo and get that thrilling Pinoy music fix.
Overseeing Halo Halo operations is Viva South vice president for operations Verb del Rosario. The AB Management Economics degree holder from Ateneo gets invaluable support from an enthusiastic batch of station managers and disc jockeys who have also made spreading the charms of Filipino music their reason to be on the air. They are the following:
Halo Halo Cebu: Louie Ian Espinosa Bahena as DJ Flaco. Home driving through Cebu traffic and dinnertime at home gets more enjoyable with the hits served up by DJ Flaco.
Julius Manahan as Chop. Actor, host, newscaster and top radio personality Chop is also “Ang Tagalog na Nag-Bibisaya” who brings 37 years of radio experience and two National KBP Golden Dove Awards to Cebu.
JP Cabrales as David Dash. “Ang inyong alagad sa kahanginan, ang paspash nga si David Dash” opens the day with his kind of do’s and don’ts and crazy horoscopes at 6 to 10 a.m.

Halo Halo Davao: Frederick Divino as Dingdong G. He is “Ang pinakaguwapong tao nang ‘di pa nauso ang tao noon,” who wakes listeners every morning at 6 a.m. with the weather report, daily horoscope and the latest news. The G stands for Guwantes.

Halo Halo Zamboanga: Therevia Versano as DJ Via Vanilla. The Chinitang Daldalera known for her famous line “Aanhin mo ang iyong gwapong ka-RED String kung may malandi namang dala-dala’y gunting.”
Ivan Xeres Tangon as DJ Xerxes. Call him Boy Eksenador, singer and theater actor who tirelessly dispenses advice for both Sir and Sis, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Jayson A. Tajos as DJ Tjay Bolero. Model, gym buff and hunk who is in charge of the 6 to 9 p.m. timeslot.
Analet Cabreros as DJ Anne. She is “Ang babaeng ang kutis ay alagang papaya at nagbibigay ligaya sa mga taga-pakinig na kinulang sa ganda.” So feel prettier at 9 a.m. to 12 noon every morning with DJ Anne.
So don’t forget, Halo Halo Radio, the best of Pinoy Music, sarap or lami or sabrosu. Most of all, all Filipino.
