George Montgomery in Huk and Steel Claw
Hollywood actor George Montgomery starred in two action films shot in the Philippines, Huk! (1956) and The Steel Claw (1961).
Mona Freeman was George’s leading lady in Huk!, but both movies co-starred Filipino actors, such as Charito Luna, Mario Barri, Ben Perez, Teddy Benavidez.
Huk! was hyped ‘The most savage guerrilla war on earth!’ and Steel Claw ‘It tears your nerves to shreds!’
George and Mona came out on the cover of Kislap in October 1955 wearing barong and terno at a barrio fiesta tendered in their honor. Kislap noted they made a beautiful pair in their Filipino costumes on the cover of Kislap (with the local touch).
Kislap wrote further:
‘George, married to Dinah Shore with two children, was noted for Western pictures. His first starrer was Lone Ranger, where he did his own stunts. Mona was a Paramount contract artist who starred with Jean Simmons in Angel Face and played leading lady to Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. She was romantically linked to Bing Crosby and was married to Pat Nerny (ex-husband) of Jane Powell). — RKC
