MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Loren Legarda received a lifetime achievement award called the Dangal ng Haraya: Tagapagtaguyod ng Sining at Kultura (Patron of Arts and Culture) from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) chairman Felipe de Leon, Jr. (fifth from right) on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at a ceremony held in the Marble Hall of Ayuntamiento Bldg., Intramuros, Manila.

‘In grateful recognition of her unmatched contribution to the development of Filipino identity and sense of nationhood, her unwavering commitment to the flowering of our artistic creativity and protection of our indigenous heritage, and her steadfast devotion to the social empowerment of our indigenous peoples, the culture and arts sector bestows on Sen. Loren B. Legarda the highest honor.
‘Sen. Legarda has achieved the greatest impact on Philippine society through her pioneering legislation for arts and culture. In a political and social climate lacking in appreciation of our artistic heritage, Sen. Legarda serves as a beacon for her heroic efforts in harnessing her legislative expertise to dignify the loftiest expressions of the Filipino soul. She has established a lasting legacy that will serve as a constant inspiration to the present and future generations of Filipinos.’
In November 2015, the NCCA bestowed on Sen. Legarda the Gawad Katutubong Pagkalinga award for her invaluable service to the country’s indigenous peoples and relentless efforts in preserving and promoting its traditional culture.
