In all her political and social endeavors when she was First Lady, Imelda Romualdez-Marcos was assisted by the so-called Blue Ladies, coming from various strata and fields of society. Government, civic, business. With their white and blue ternos, the Blue Ladies easily stood out from any crowd.

Led by former Sen. Pacita Madrigal Gonzalez, the Blue Ladies were active in the ‘60s up to the early ‘70s.

Then Mrs. Marcos was at the peak of beauty and popularity, as shown in accompanying photos.

When Martial Law was imposed in 1972 by President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos, the Blue Ladies disbanded. To date, a few of them remain loyal to the former First Lady, current congresswoman of Ilocos Norte. — RKC
