The Second Wife not a campy drama?
Recently, ABS-CBN announced the airing of its newest TV series, The Second Wife. Is it another story about a mistress? Is it another Tubig at Langis which is about the battle between the wife and mistress?
Tubig at Langis is a campy drama that has generated on social media warm discussion about the numerous catfight scenes between the lead stars Cristine Reyes and Isabelle Daza.
In The Second Wife, directed by Jerry Sineneng for Star Creatives, Bea Alonzo will play the second wife of Ian Veneracion and while Iza Calzado the first wife.
The series marks Bea’s comeback drama after a two-year hiatus. Bea admitted that the role posed a big challenge to her. She added that she’s looking forward to working with Ian and Iza for the first time.
The series depicts the situation of today’s modern families. Some of the scenes will be filmed outside the country.
“I will be shooting abroad with Ian Veneracion,” said Bea, “but I can’t yet say where. The campy scenes will be different this time, not the ones usually seen on TV. I’m excited how direk Jerry will execute the scenes.”
Iza said, “The series is about what’s happening in our society today. It is a bold theme but it’s not something as taboo. There can be tension in some scenes but without the pulling of the hair and slapping. Let us see where the story will lead to. But definitely I think both characters are very mature and parehong subtle at hindi campy talaga. That is what the soap hopes to achieve.”
As for Ian, who starred in the 2015 remake of Pangako Sa’Yo and currently involved in a love triangle with Jodi Sta. Maria and Richard Yap in the movie The Achy Breaky Hearts, he said he is exhilarated since he has always wanted to work with Bea.
“Tired but happy. Excited! I’ve always been saying that I had always wanted to work with Bea,” said Ian. “Iza and I have worked together already.”
The Second Wife also stars Enchong Dee as Bea’s half-brother, Julia Barretto as Iza and Ian’s daughter, Vin Abrenica, Hannah Vito, JK Labajo, Irma Adlawan and Tirso Cruz III.
