Motorcycle Diaries pays tribute to moms

Iris Gonzales - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Jay Taruc goes on a unique journey tonight as GMA News TV’s Motorcycle Diaries pays tribute to mothers who go out of their way just to provide for their children. The show will feature the heartwarming sacrifice of Nanay Biana, Nanay Gamay and Nanay Zoraida.

Nanay Biana is already 69 years old, but for her, she would take care of her children for as long as she is alive. Her sons are already adults but Nanay Biana still has to look after them as they are suffering from mental illness. And instead of thinking about herself as she face the dusk of her life, Nanay Biana worries about her sons and who will take care of them once she is gone.

Meanwhile, Nanay Gamay’s hands are already full of blisters doing laundry work for 57 years. She does not mind though as her work has enabled her to support her 11 children so that they could finish school. Nanay Gamay is separated from her husband and until now she continues to do laundry work to take care of her two grandchildren whose parents are working abroad. Ironically, the mother who is considered to be the light of the household has to depend on a kerosene lamp to look after her grandchildren at night.

Every day, 65-year-old Nanay Zoraida wakes up early, and on board her bike goes from one house to another to collect pigswill. While others find these food leftovers disgusting, Nanay Zoraida considers these as treasures. For three decades now, she has been taking care of swine for a living, allowing her to send all her four sons to college.

Motorcycle Diaries airs Thursdays at 10 p.m.
