MANILA, Philippines — Film director Quark Heneras took to social media to blame the working hours and conditions in television as the cause of TV and movie directors recently.

This came after director Francis Pasion, known for his independent movies such as "Jay" and "Bwaya," passed away due to cardiac arrest on Sunday.

Director Wenn Deramas also passed away due to cardiac earlier this week.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Quark gave tribute to Pasion, whom he considers as a friend and colleague.

Quark said: "He was my professor, he was my friend, he was the founder of my college org, he was my colleague... Rest in peace, Mr. Pasion."

He added in the latter part of his post, he said it's time to change the working  hours and conditions of those who work on television.

"I think the reason a lot of TV directors like Wenn Deramas and Gilbert Perez, and now Francis Pasion are getting cardiac arrests is because of the horrible working hours and conditions in television," he said.

Perez is a TV and movie director who died in 2008 due to a heart attack.

"And it's not just directors: stuntmen, ADs, crew people and cameramen all go through similar situations. This should really change. And I don't know how it will, considering that this entails losses for the networks. But it really is time," Quark added. — Chuck Smith
