As intimate as Daryl Ong

Nap Gutierrez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The moment he entered the stage of a full-packed Teatrino for his pre-Valentine concert, The Voice runner-up Daryl Ong (photo) sent a message to the music industry. Based on the seemingly endless screams and shrieks that greeted him from his first song, you’d get the feeling that the young man onstage was going to be the next most important performer in the concert scene.

Yes, Daryl, the singer who failed to make it as the grand winner of The Voice Season 2, has been proving to all and sundry that indeed, win or lose, he is here to stay and make more waves as a concert performer.

He belted out popular R&B songs led by Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself coupled with a romantic delivery of spiels about love and being in love. And when it was time for him to sing local jukebox hits such as Pusong Bato, Remember Me and April Boy Regino’s Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin, the crowd just went wild and asked for more.

Daryl is slowly but surely becoming the Prince of Teleserye Theme Songs, as he announced he will be recording one very soon for an upcoming ABS-CBN teleserye. And when he sang the theme song of On the Wings of Love, (with a JaDine scene for OTWOL on the VTR on the big screen) there was total silence until a thunderous applause broke out after he finished the song.

It was, as the title of his concert suggested, as intimate as it could be as Daryl had the chance to open up about love and more of himself in a two-hour show that sent everyone mesmerized with his good voice, and yes, looks. And when Daryl admitted he is single on Valentine’s, the screams got louder and louder.

Intimate was produced by Vince Abasolo and David Cabawatan of Aqueous Events.
