REVIEW: ‘Fathers and Daughters’ shows importance of parents’ love

Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines - The importance of parents’ love in the growth of a child is the main thought that the film “Fathers and Daughters” depicted.

Kylie Rogers and and Amanda Seyfried gave life to the character of Katie. Kylie showed what Katie had to go through in her young age, while Amanda showed what has become of her after all her struggle.

Russell Crowe gave life to Jake Davis, a popular author, a loyal husband and above all a loving father to his only child Katie. Yet as the saying goes, no one is perfect and Jake is not an exception.

After he lost his wife, a lot has changed in the life of Jake and Katie. These changes took toll on Jake’s health, which will affect Katie’s life forever.

“Fathers and Daughters” showed the viewers that sometimes things happen which lead us to do things we know are wrong, but still do it anyway to keep ourselves together. It does not justify the things wrongly done by some people, but instead makes us realize that they needed help and most of all love.

In Katie’s case it was Cameron (Aaron Paul) who guided her out of the wall she has built around herself. Her fear to love and suffer loss again made her veer away from anything that gave her strong emotion and attachment.

On the process, she kept hurting the people who loved her, with her actually wanting to keep and fill them with her love.

Aside from the essentiality of parents’ love in molding a child, the film also leaves viewers to realize that no matter how painful it is, one should keep moving forward. One always has a choice if a bad experience will either serve as a block or a pathway in the life ahead.

“Fathers and Daughters” enlightens the viewers that pain is not a dead end; it is a starting point of something new to come in your life.

The film is directed by Andrew Renzi and is now in cinemas nationwide. It is locally distributed by OctoArts Films International.
