The Beatles back in No. 1 with 1

Edgar O. Cruz - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Originally issued as a compact disc, cassette and vinyl (only in the United Kingdom) on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Beatles break-up, Apple Records re-issued the 1 in a two-disc set on Nov. 6, 2015 as a deluxe edition.

Now No. 1 in Billboard’s 200 chart of Veteran Artist Album of the Week in the US, it ranks highest after No. 2 Nothing But the Best by Frank Sinatra, No. 3. Greatest Hits by Journey, No. 4 Greatest Hits by Queen, and No. 5 Curtain Call by Eminem.

Their first-time streaming on Spotify and other services and availability in digital music on sites such as Amazon made this feasible.

Veteran Artists Albums are by artists of rock, pop, soul, country, folk and blues who have been recording for 25 years or more by VVN Music definition. Formerly known as Vintage Vinyl News, VVN Music publishes the latest news and information on the veteran artists.

1 is a compilation album by producer George Martin and the three living members back then, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr originally released on Nov. 13, 2000. The back cover features the Beatles’ psychedelic-inspired photos as clicked by Richard Avedon in 1967.

Featuring the Beatles’ 27 No. 1 singles in the UK and US from 1962 to 1970, Side one (1962 to ’64) contains Love Me Do, From Me to You, She Loves You, I Want to Hold Your Hand, Can’t Buy Me Love, A Hard Day’s Night, I Feel Fine and Eight Days a Week.

Side two (1965 to ’66) has Ticket to Ride, Help!, Yesterday, Day Tripper, We Can Work It Out, Paperback Writer, Yellow Submarine and Eleanor Rigby.

Side three (1967 to ’68) has Penny Lane, All You Need Is Love, Hello, Goodbye, Lady Madonna and Hey Jude.

And Side four (1969 to ’70) has Get Back, The Ballad of John and Yoko, Something, Come Together, Let It Be and The Long and Winding Road.

1 surpassed all critical and commercial expectations, reaching No. 1 in over 35 countries. It debuted at the top of the most national charts, turning the highest-selling of 2000 and later, its decade.

Disc 1 of the reissued 1 contains the song tracks as remixed from the original multi-track masters by Giles Martin, the record producer son of George Martin, the producer of most of the Beatles songs. The first three tracks are the original mono mixes.

Also added are surround sound 5.1 mixes presented as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio in the Blu-ray version and Dolby Digital and DTS in the DVD version.

Disc 2 contains newly restored promotional videos in the running order of Disc 1. It also contains McCartney’s audio commentary for Penny Lane, Hello, Goodbye and Hey Jude and filmed introductions by Starr for Penny Lane, Hello, Goodbye, Hey Jude and Get Back.

The reissued 1 is projected to surpass the original’s critical and commercial accomplishment.
