Jordan Smith, The Voice Season 9 champ
MANILA, Philippines - Veteran coach Adam Levine was truly victorious when The Voice Season 9 concluded with the big win of his talent, Jordan Smith. Jordan edged out Team Blake Shelton’s Emily Ann Roberts and Barrett Baber, who placed second and third place, respectively.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey Austin from Team Gwen Stefani was in fourth place. Coach Pharrell Williams failed to enter any of his talents into the finals this season. Last season, Team Pharrell scored his first win with Sawyer Fredericks as champion.
The win of Team Adam for Jordan was a complete reversal of what happened in Season 7, when three of Team Adam talents — Damien, Chris Jamison and Matt McAndrew — lost to the sole contender of Team Blake, Craig Wayne Boyd, for the finals.
Jordan from Harlan, Kentucky was the first four-chair turner enlisted by Team Adam. Jordan rendered Chandelier during the Blind Auditions and strongly stayed on with Coach Adam until the finals. Undoubtedly, he was a frontrunner throughout the season. He earned 57 percent of the total votes for the finals.
Jordan was Team Adam’s third win as coach, following earlier victories with Javier Colon (The Voice Season 1) and Tessanne Chin (The Voice Season 5).
Another Team Adam talent was Fil-Am singer Amy Vachal, who nearly made it to The Voice 9, but a week before the finals, Amy was eliminated from the competition. She was among the Top 9 finalists slashed down to four for the finale.
The four finalists rendered a Christmas classic, a duet with their coach and a solo song of their choice. Jordan sang Mary Did You Know, crooned The Beach Boys’ God Only Knows with Adam and belted out Climb Every Mountain from The Sound of Music. He also did Climb Every Mountain as a powerful encore after he was proclaimed winner.
Team Blake’s Emily Ann who placed second, rendered Blue Christmas, Islands in the Stream and Burning House, while third placer Barrett performed Silent Night, Rhinestone Cowboy and Die A Happy Man. Fourth runner-up Jeffrey Austin sang Oh Holy Night, Leather and Lace and Stay.
Guest for the finals included Coldplay, that performed its new single Adventure of a Lifetime, Missy Elliot who did her new song, WTF (Where They From) and Justin Bieber who sang his brand-new single, Sorry, right before the winner was announced.
This season’s mentors who helped the coaches were young singer-actress Selena Gomez for Team Gwen; singer-songwriter Missy Elliot for Team Pharrell; country artist Brad Paisley for Team Blake; and singer-musician John Fogerty of Credence Clearwater Revival for Team Adam.
