MANILA, Philippines - Lampara Publishing House recently launched Moymoy Lulumboy 2: Ang Nawawalang Birtud at the SMX Convention Center.
Moymoy Lulumboy became a byword among the young adults who love to read original Filipino novels when the book Moymoy Lulumboy: Ang Batang Aswang was launched last February.
Due to popular request, the second installment regarding the adventures of Moymoy Lulumboy continues in Moymoy Lulumboy Book 2: Ang Nawawalang Birtud.
Yes, the successful formula — 50-percent mythology, 50-percent adventure, a hundred percent Filipino — are still present in the novel.
The series is written by Segundo Matias Jr., a champion of original Filipino literature for the youth. Matias, also known by his persona Kuya Jun, is a storyteller and has published over numerous stories for children and young adults. He is a recipient of awards from Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards and from the Philippine Board on Books for Young People. Jomike Tejido imparts his iconic illustrations to the book. The illustrator has been specializing in children’s books since 2001.
Matias, a long-time advocate of children’s literacy, recalled his childhood was spent playing among rice fields and riversides in his native Pampanga province. His playtime was enriched with stories of aswang, duwende and other Filipino mythologies. With the advent of foreign book series for young adults such as Harry Potter, Twilight and the likes, Matias set out to make a series with the Filipino audience in mind.
Inspired by local folklore, written and illustrated by Filipino talents and published locally, Moymoy Lulumboy 2: Ang Nawawalang Birtud is going to be another literary gem made by Filipinos for Filipinos.
Moymoy Lulumboy 2: Ang Nawawalang Birtud is available at all Precious Pages bookstores.
