MANILA, Philippines – Janella Salvador feels “a bit pressured” that her launching film is Regal Film’s entry to the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival.
She stars in the horror film “Haunted Mansion,” which also stars Marlo Mortel and Jerome Ponce.
“Siyempre maraming love teams do’n na medyo super [lakas] na kalaban namin,” she explained in a interview on Wednesday. “But kami lang ang horror and hindi kami nakikipag-compete sa mga love team. Kami lang ang triangle do’n, pero the film could stand on its own.”
This year's MMFF will feature movies that star popular love teams: Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza in "My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore," James Reid and Nadine Lustre in "Beauty and the Bestie" and Xian Lim and Kim Chiu in "All You Need is Pag-ibig."
In "Haunted Mansion," she portrays the role of Ella, a girl who is bullied by her classmates because of her “weird” power to see ghosts.
As they get stuck in a mansion for their retreat, Ella’s dilemma is if she’ll use her power to talk to the ghosts to save those who bullied her or to turn her back on them.
Janella admitted having a hard time doing a horror film since “you have to imagine things that don’t exist. You really have to use your imagination.”
“Lahat ng ginagawa ko gusto ko ginagaw ako ang best ko. Lalo na ito, first film ko ‘to. I don’t to give my second best, so gusto ko ibigay ang hundred percent ko,” she added.
