Eddie Ilarde’s Republic of Seniors the beginning

MANILA, Philippines - Former Sen. Eddie Ilarde (photo) and at one time the country’s TV King unabashedly confesses that his “epiphany led me to detest politics and instead work for the dignity and welfare of older persons who shall dominate the demographic.”

Now an octogenarian (81 years old), Kuya Eddie says that the “societal structure of the world” has changed dramatically with the fast-growing number of older people. He adds that “medical science has lengthened man’s lifespan, and suppressing birthrates as modes of modern trends explain this phenomenon; the older people will therefore be the lifeblood of the future.”

Tomorrow, Nov. 25, the taping of Republic of Seniors’ launch presentation will be held at the Makati Cinema Square, now called Makati Square Arena, at the corner of P. Tamo and Pasay Road. Various senior organizations from Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Pampanga, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, Bataan, Quezon, Marinduque, Mindoro and Metro Manila are expected to attend the show of “seniors’ power” at 1 p.m.

Kuya Eddie says that his organization, which is co-producing Republic of Seniors with GMA Network, is indebted to Bong Alonto, the president/general manager of the Makati Square. “Our seniors have declared Mr. Alonto as ‘ninong naming mga nakatatanda.’”
