MANILA, Philippines — ABS-CBN actor Paulo Avelino is excited to reprise his role as Gregorio del Pilar in the sequel for the hit historical film "Heneral Luna."

It was announced that the producers of "Heneral Luna" are pushing through with the follow-up for their hit movie: a film about Gregorio del Pilar, one of the youngest generals in the Philippine Revolutionary Forces during the Philippine-American War.

Paulo first played the role in "Heneral Luna."

"I'm very excited," he told members of the press during the thanksgiving part for "Heneral Luna" on Thursday. "As our producers said earlier, it's now in the works. We're doing proper research now and they're really preparing for it."

The 27-year-old actor added: "I'm really excited to start shooting. I'm just excited for the Gregorio del Pilar film."

The ABS-CBN star, an award-winning actor who has won an Urian best actor award for his work in the independent film "Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa" in 2011, considers his upcoming role in the historical movie as a big challenge.

"Kumbaga, tao itong ipo-portray ko. Parte rin ito ng kasaysayan natin kaya medyo magiging challenge siya para sa akin," he said.

"Syempre, 'andun lagi 'yung kaba. Pero sana, sana suportahan siya," Paulo added. He hopes those who supported "Heneral Luna" will also support the Del Pilar biopic when it gets released.

"Hindi man mapantayan 'yung suporta na nakuha ng 'Heneral Luna,' sana malagpasan pa."

Paulo's last television project is "Bridges of Love," which also starred Maja Salvador and Jericho Rosales.

He said a new TV series is also in the works for him. He also has a movie with Maja and Anne Salvador coming out in theaters next year.

"Kakaiba," Paulo said when asked to described his upcoming movie.
