Celebrity Playtime is a Philippine television game show hosted by Billy Crawford, which premiered on ABS–CBN last Sept. 26, replacing Mga Kwento ni Marc Logan, and airs every Saturday after TV Patrol Weekend and before Home Sweetie Home.
The objective of the game is to collect two teams of eight contestants each who will play various types of games in order to earn the pot of P100,000. In the mini-games, if contestants are performing better, this team will earn one to two people depending on the game.
A word is given in Hirap I-Spellengin and one contestant needs to spell out a letter. If one is successful, another contestant spells another word until it is completed. If one team spells the word wrongly, the opposing team gets a point. If both teams manage to spell one word correctly, no points will be given to either team.
After this, two new songs are given to be sung, most of the time combined into a single song. The contestants need to guess what the two songs are that are being played. If the contestants give the correct answer, the team gets a point and the song changes. If one song from the two songs was answered wrongly, the opposite team can steal and guess the title of the two songs. If both teams fail, a new set of contestants will answer a new set of two songs.
As examples, we were given a sampler in Sing-a-Zoo competition, where the contestant is asked to hum the song while imitating the assigned animal sound. Others from the same team will have to guess what the contestant is singing. If the answer is correct, then the team gets two points and both the animal and the song are changed. A song is played using the piano and contestants have to guess what song it is that was played within 20 seconds.
The next song Transla-songs will be played either in English or Tagalog. The contestants will need to translate the song into another language within two minutes. Then comes the Blanket Ba Ganyan competition where the contestant will have to make use of a blanket and come out with something other contestants will guess what it is. If the guess is correct, they are given one point.
In Lights, Camera, Act-Song, a contestant is made to wear a noise-cancelling headphone, and is asked to guess what the song is through the contestants’ actions within two minutes. The winning team will win up to P300,000.
In Perfect Song-bination, two songs will be sung, most of the time combined into a single song, which contestants will need to guess what the two songs being played are. If the two songs are correct, the team gets a point and the song changes. If one song from the two songs was answered wrongly, the opposite team can do a steal and guess the title of the two songs. If both teams fail, a new set of contestants will answer a new set of two songs within three minutes.
There are many other contests involved in the competition like one called Sing-a-Zoo, Bitin to No and Transla-songs.
We feel that the new game show is one that helps sharpen one’s attention, while providing entertainment at the same time. See you all next Saturday.
