MANILA, Philippines — AlDub "kalye-serye" stars Alden Richards, Maine Mendoza and Wally Bayola are to become the first recipients of the Catholic Social Media Award.
They were chosen by Youth Pinoy and Areopagus Communications Inc. to be the first recipients of the award at the 4th Catholic Social Media Summit on October 11 in Santa Rosa, Laguna, a news report from the Catholic Bishops' Conference Philippines (CBCP) said.
Raymond Bandril, part of the awarding committee, said the the stars of the hit "Eat Bulaga!" segment were chosen for their "inspiring message" and "virtues" they impart to viewers.
“This is the kind [of show] that we don't see on TV anymore," Bandril said.
TAPE productions, the producer of the noontime show Eat Bulaga!, will also be given recognition for producing shows that are "steeped in Christian values."
Maine and Wally will be the ones to receive the award on behalf of the "kalye-serye" on Sunday.
In a previous statement, Kunegundo Garganta, executive secretary of CBCP-Episcopal Commission on the Youth reminded AlDub fans not only to consider the "kilig" from the show but also the lessons the characters impart to the viewers.
