MANILA, Philippines - This week in Profiles, Mitzi Borromeo sits down with award-winning TV, movie and theater actress Cherie Gil.
Cherie is known for her kontrabida (antagonist) roles that perfectly match her strong mestiza features. But with almost 45 years in show business, she has reinvented herself many times to break free from her kontrabida mold.
She had been involved in a number of theater productions. The latest is the Philippine Educational Theater Association’s Arbol De Fuego, an adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, where she played a lead protagonist role.
Cherie has also been active in the indie movie scene, where she has won several Best Actress awards. She recently won the Best Actress in a Foreign Language Film for MANA, directed by Gabriel Fernandez, at the Madrid International Film Festival.
Catch the veteran actress in Profiles on Sept. 25 at 9:30 p.m., with replays on Mondays at 4:30 p.m. and Sundays, 1:30 p.m. on CNN Philippines.
