Juan Tamad meets the Pope

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Viewers are in for another hilarious episode of Juan Tamad tomorrow, Sept. 20. After weeks of bad luck, it seems things can get no worse for Juan and his Nanay Siony. But they do.

While their next-door neighbors — the Guiguintos — are booking rooms at a five-star hotel in time for the Papal visit, the D. Magbangons are unceremoniously booted out of their house by the local Sheriff.

In a series of unexpected twists and turns, Juan (played Sef Cadayona) and his Nanay Siony end up on the streets of Metro Manila, living under a piece of tarp, inside a jeepney, then atop a kariton, even getting picked up by the DSWD along the way.

Juan experiences all this as a grand adventure, amazed at the kindness of the poverty-stricken strangers they encounter.

But when his lifelong crush Marie (Max Collins) finally tells him she would never consider a man with no ambition, he falls into despair.

Juan can manage without a home but not without love.  Walking aimlessly, he lands in the midst of a Luneta crowd and unexpectedly comes face to face with the Pope. Much to everyone’s surprise, Juan is given a blessing that marks the start of happier days to come.

The episode is penned by Liza Magtoto, who wrote the hit musical Rak of Aegis. Juan Tamad airs Sundays at 4:45 p.m. on GMA 7.
