Richard Yap open to do dramatic roles

MANILA, Philippines – Richard Yap is the newest addition to the afternoon drama series “Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita.”

He’ll be paired with Vina Morales’s character Cecilia, her childhood sweetheart whom she left behind to go to Manila.

Although the show is known for its heavy drama scenes, Richard said his character is more positive.

“Kasi medyo positive naman si Carlo dito,” he said about his role, in an interview on Wednesday. “Hindi naman siya as burdened as the other characters in the show. My part here is to be a positive influence on the show, to lift Cecilia up, e. Hindi ako puwede maging masyadong heavy also.”

He also sees this as an opportunity to prove that he’s not limiting himself to light roles, as he was known after doing “Be Careful With My Heart” for two years.

“I have nothing against doing other characters, kahit maging kontra bida ako,” he said. “It doesn’t really matter. As long as maganda ang contribution ng character sa show. So puwede naman.”

He also reacted on the “Daytime King” title given to him by his home network, which he attributes to “Be Careful With My Heart” that used to air in the daytime block.

He said this title just inspired him more to do better in his craft.

“It’s just a title. It doesn’t really affect who we are,” he said. “It’s flattering, I’m thankful to be given a title. Pero it doesn’t mean na we rest on all our… we have to work hard for everything we do.”
