Rosette Adel - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines – Kris Aquino on Saturday said she already forwarded the concerns of the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who aired out their complaints regarding the Bureau of Customs' (BOC) new directive to open balikbayan boxes for inspection.

Aquino assured the public that the OFWs and netizens concerns were duly forwarded to the authorities.

The "queen of all media" was flooded with OFWs' and other netizens’ feedback following a photo she posted on Instagram.

Being one of the presidential sisters, netizens quickly raised their concerns on BOC’s new policy to randomly inspect their “pasalubongs” or gifts and commented to ask for Kris’s help.

Kris responded to her Instagram followers  and posted a new photo with Ralph Waldo Emerson’s quote: “Be an opener of doors” accompanied with a caption guaranteeing that the complaints were passed to the government officials including her brother, President Benigno Aquino III.

In her caption, Kris wrote to the OFWs and netizens, saying that through sending the public’s clamor, she hopes she was able to help in her humble way.

Kris added that the government should study, clarify and act on the policies that have a direct impact to the public.

“To all the OFWs & relatives/friends of our OFWs, I already forwarded your concerns w/c you very clearly stated on my thread in my previous post to those in a position to not only address them but hopefully study, clarify, and act on policies that have a direct impact on you, your sacrifices, and your love for family that motivates not just you, but all of us to work hard,” Kris’s caption read.

“I make no promises because I'm not in government, but your concerns didn't fall on deaf ears, and in my own small & humble way I do hope I was able to help,” she said.

The BOC was bombarded with public outrage due to its new directive to open balikbayan boxes as part of its drive to stop smuggling.
