“I’m not surprised at all,” he replied when asked to comment on Gab’s nomination, in an interview on Thursday. “I think none [in] my family [is] surprised kasi ever since, in the past five or six years, ‘yong talent niya as a dancer and as a producer, we already saw this is already world-class level of producing and dancing.”
Although they’re making their own names in the industry, Paolo said getting out of their father Gary V. shadow was not easy.
Gab is being known as a dancer-choreographer-producer in the States, while he is known in the country as a performer and concert director.
“Definitely it was not easy,” he admitted. “I’ve been performing with my band for ten years and never in my wildest dreams thought that I would become a concert director. It really was a process, but I feel at the end it really worked out.”
Aside from the successful concerts he has directed, like his father’s recent concert and shows, Paolo is happy about the good feedback he got for his concert “Next Attraction.”
It will even have a rerun on August 14 and 15, 8 p.m. at the Music Museum in Greenhills, San Juan City.
The concert brings together the children of other renowned singers like Karylle, Robin Nievera and Isabelle Ledesma.
“We had a conscious effort talaga to try and do new stuff. We didn’t want to recycle stuff na people used to do,” he said about the show. “We really tried to do something na hindi pa nakikita ng tao, that’s what we really try to achieve.”
“Kasi if we try to catch what our parents are doing people will then start comparing,” he added.
As for his personal life, Paolo believes that he’s now ready to have a child.
He admitted that when he got married to Samantha Godinez in 2013, they didn’t want to immediately have a baby knowing that they’re not ready.
“Pero this year has been very kind to me in terms of career and work. So I did tell my wife na parang kaya na, we can afford na,” he said, laughing. “This just has been a very good two years. The past two years have been really amazing, I didn’t expect it. So now we’ve been talking about it.”
