More thrilling non-stop action in Insurgent
MANILA, Philippines - The saga of the Divergent Trilogy continues on March 18 as Insurgent opens in Philippine cinemas nationwide.
From The New York Times best-selling author of Divergent, Veronica Roth, comes Insurgent, an upcoming action-packed, science-fiction film that includes stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Ansel Elgort and Miles Teller. Directed by Robert Schwentke, it is the second book of the Divergent trilogy and the second installment to the 2014 blockbuster hit movie, Divergent.
Divergent trilogy holds Top 3 places on USA Today’s Best-Selling Books list. Insurgent puts even more acting gas in the franchise tank, with Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts joining the party as the leaders of Amity and Factionless, respectively.
Insurgent raises the stakes for Tris (Woodley) as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’ family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
“It has so much more action than Divergent did and the action scenes are like seven-minute sequences,” Woodley said.
“Insurgent will offer non-stop thrilling action scenes and out-of-this-world special effects, which features lots of impressive fight scenes, as well as some romance.
“I felt like Spider-Man,” Woodley told the news last month about filming the aerial action scenes. Tris’ edgy new haircut and more muscular physique shows that Insurgent is playing with the big dogs now. We are excited to see a more mature look into the Divergent world, and to see Shailene kick some serious ass.”
Divergent made nearly $290M worldwide, so we have a feeling that Insurgent is going to achieve an even bigger gross, especially with Woodley’s higher profile after the success of The Fault in Our Stars.
The film promises more action than Divergent. Producer Lucy Fisher said, “Right away we were gonna start the movie with action, with Tris bring chased from faction to faction and we never let up.”
Winslet also chimed in about the amount of action viewers will get to see in the sequel, claiming, “It’s an exciting action-packed film with great performances.”
Roth has seen the new Insurgent movie already and she revealed her feelings about the movie. Roth explained that she, like many fans, was apprehensive about the film after seeing the trailers. However, after seeing the movie she approved the changes that were made.
“Insurgent, the book, has a complicated plot — a lot of moving parts, a lot of ups and downs. That sort of thing can work in a book, but if it’s translated directly to the screen, it makes for a messy, confusing movie. The changes that were made streamlined the story so it makes sense for this new format; in other words, they work.”
