Oggy & Ogie discovered
We had a dream last night, after watching TV and recalling the blind auditions on ABS-CBN’s The Voice of the Philippines first season. It had such an impact on us that for months, we would close our eyes and sing our favorite ballad, letting our voice and the lyrics of the song become our sole guide in choosing a winner. This practice would continue for at least a year until other matters became more important to us like getting our teeth fixed, going for our regular complete body check-up, going to press conferences, etc., etc.
As we listened to our voice speaking in the wilderness, our time had come to see our dream come true. But before this, we had to sing with our eyes closed so we would be able to pick a winner. We had thought it was still part of our dream when we heard of an animated series showing on TV called Oggy and the Cockroaches. It would star Ogie Alcasid known everywhere for his comic timing and sense of humor. Imagine Ogie’s surprise to find as a co-star a cartoon character called Oggy who is a blue cat!
As we further investigated into the traits of this blue cat, he began to show human traits like sitting at home watching television, eating and sleeping. How human can you get! Oggy also hates roaches as much as we do and we would find him sniffing at every nook and cranny for their hiding place.
Meanwhile, Ogie, whose real name is Herminio Jose Lualhati Alcasid Jr., had left the GMA Network after bidding farewell to their bosses. He had moved to TV5 with a Herculean task ahead of him. The network’s owner, Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP), had assigned him to head the station’s music department where he has been in-charge of creating music for the Kapatid network.
This being said and done, we return to Oggy, the blue cat who would have nothing to do with cockroaches, although he admits to have some use for them, like playing hide and seek with them where he made sure they would always lose and never again return. The roaches in the household: Joey, DeeDee and Marky (named after members of the punk group Ramones) seem to enjoy making Oggy’s life miserable, which involves mischief ranging from plundering his refrigerator to such awkward things like hijacking the train Oggy just boarded. Since dialogue is kept to a minimum, the humor is entirely visual. What this cat is only after is a quiet snooze, curled up on his pink cushion in front of his favorite TV programs.
We saw Ogie looking through a book of ballads from Christian Bautista. He asked us to help him choose. We picked out When You Say Nothing At All, our personal favorite, Ogie put it on the CD player and joined in the song… It’s amazing how you can speak right to my heart; Without saying a word you can light up the dark… all the way to the smile on your fact; The truth in your eyes; The touch of your hand; Lets me know that you need me…
We know exactly how this story will end. Ogie will go through the entire album of Christian, from Come What May, Up Where We Belong, How Deep is Your Love, After all, A Thousand Years, Cruisin, Way Back Into Love, Love Is All Around, The Way We Were, Kiss From a Rose, Unchained Melody to Seasons of Love.
Goodbye, blue cat. We shall meet again for the next season of animated characters.
