Derek Ramsay dating non-showbiz girl

Joyce Jimenez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Actor Derek Ramsay has made a promise to himself to no longer date a fellow actor.

“No more showbiz [girlfriend]. Too much drama,” he said in an interview with Philstar.com on Wednesday.

This is despite observations that he and Jennylyn Mercado are a perfect pair. The two starred in the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival entry “English Only, Please” where they both won acting awards.

Derek didn’t deny that he finds Jennylyn attractive and that their interests match, but “ang ano do’n is the showbiz factor, and I’m not going to change her, to quit showbiz. So we became really good friends.”

So he just hoped to meet someone like her outside showbiz, which he did. Derek is currently dating a 27-year-old non-showbiz girl.

“I’ve known her for a while. But I think it was over Christmas holidays when we got to know each other more,” he replied when asked how he met the girl, who he says works as a part-time model.

She also has an eight-year-old daughter, which doesn’t bother Derek since he himself has an eleven-year-old son with former partner Mary Christine Jolly.

“I won’t judge somebody by their past,” he adds. “It’s what you show me, it’s what you show me that I will take of you, not because of your past. I didn’t know you during your past, so it’s what you show me.”

The Kapatid actor-host said he’s been ready to settle down for some time now, yet he wants to take things slow with the non-showbiz girl.

“I really want to start a family,” he said. “I’ve been ready for a while already, it’s just that it’s not easy. But sana nga, I’ve been blessed in so many ways. So sana love life ma-bless na ako.”
