MANILA, Philippines - “Nabuking ang lola n’yo!”
Thus said Nikki Gil when asked about her engagement to non-showbiz boyfriend BJ Albert during the anniversary press conference for ABS-CBN’s variety show “ASAP 20” on Sunday.
The 27-year-old singer-actress told members of the press she initially did not want to reveal her engagement, saying she wanted “to be kinda (private) about it.”
Nikki added, “I feel like less talk, less mistakes. I just want to keep that part of my life siguro as much as I want to share it kasi private person din yung aking husband-to-be.”
BJ, who Nikki has been dating for over a year now, is a businessman and nephew of singer Joey Albert.
Nikki said she is “very, very happy,” saying that BJ is an answered prayer for her.
“I feel like God blessed me with someone who wants to make me become a better person. And I couldn’t be happier,” she said.
Nikki is also happy she has the support of her friends, family and fans over the latest development in her life.
“Of course, you still can’t expect everyone to be happy for you. But I’m very thankful that all of our friends and our families are excited. It’s a beautiful thing that’s happening,” the ABS-CBN artist explained.
She also said, “Syempre, it’s exciting. It’s something that I’ve always prayed for. I’m happy that I’m entering a new chapter in my life.”
Nikki first admitted she is back in the dating game in early 2014, a few months after her breakup with Billy Crawford in July 2013. The singer-actress has been evasive about her love life since.
Asked when she and BJ plan to tie the knot after their engagement, Nikki said: “Saka na natin chichikahin yun. I’m still enjoying my being engaged.”
Will she continue working after getting married? “Sa ngayon, status quo. Kung ano ang nagyayari ngayon, yun pa rin naman ang magaganap,” Nikki said.
