Miss World in Manila ’55
In November 1955, Miss World May Louise Flodin came to Manila to grace Festival de L’Elegance Francaise fashion show held at the Bay View Hotel sponsored by the Manila Times. Miss World was joined by three other international beauties: Miss Paris Daniele Chaillier, Miss Elegance Johanna Allart and Miss Deauville Nina Wolff.
As the billing of the event indicated, elegant French fashion was presented, worn by the four beauties.
Before and after the fashion show, parties were held for the visiting ladies, attended by Manila’s high-society circle, including cocktails reception hosted by Manila Times publisher Chino Roces.
It was reported that the newspaper collected P10 per seat for two days and P5 per seat for the last two days. Remember, it was 1955. — RKC
