Malampaya: Gas to Power 24/7 on History

MANILA, Philippines - Did you know that half of Luzon is powered by one of the country’s most crucial engineering feats? Tomorrow night at 8, History unveils the story behind the construction and operation of one of the Philippines’ largest and most significant industrial endeavors in Malampaya: Gas to Power 24/7, a one-off, exclusive TV spectacle.

Located 80 km. off the coast of Palawan, Malampaya is an oil and gas platform that uses state-of-the-art deep-water technology to draw natural gas from deep beneath Philippine waters.

As part of the Malampaya Deep Water Gas-to-Power project, a team led by Shell Philippines Exploration BV, carries out a mission to extract natural gas deposits from over 3,000 meters below sea level and transport it to three natural gas-fired power stations 500 km. away in Batangas — a task that’s as daunting as it is exhilarating.

Witness how the brave individuals take part in this billion-dollar venture that provides half of Luzon’s power requirements by hurdling one of the greatest deep-water challenges in the world; and learn how men and machine work together in this not-to-be-missed TV special on History.
