Michael Bublé admits Filipinos 'discovered' him
MANILA, Philippines — Canadian singer, songwriter and actor Michael Bublé believes his road to fame kicked off in the Philippines, where he had his first "success."
In an interview with Kris Aquino on "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" aired Friday, Bublé said he kept on coming back to the Philippines to do shows and press tours as it was Filipinos who first appreciated him and his music.
"This is the first place I had success. This is the first place that I was famous. You guys pretty much discovered me. You were the first people," he said.
In 2003, the singer was in the Philippines as part of his tour to promote his self-titled debut album. He had confessed he was surprised with the big welcome, prompting the need to have bodyguards for the first time in his life while in the country.
Bublé, set to perform in a concert at that Mall of Asia Arena Saturday night, said he brought along his wife, Argentine actress Luisana Lopilato, and their little son, Noah, for the Philippine leg of his 2015 tour.
"I [also] brought my mother-in-law and my father-in-law," he said.
Originally scheduled to depart from Manila on Monday, Bublé said he might decide stay for a little longer in the Philippines.
"I might cancel. Bahala na," he said, reciting the last phrase in Tagalog. - Camille Diola
