An NCCA Ani ng Dangal Award for Vilma
MANILA, Philippines - Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos will be given an Ani Ng Dangal Award by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in Feb. 12, at the 7th Ani ng Dangal ceremony at the Old Senate House Hall of the National Museum of the Philippines on P. Burgos St., Manila.
Before that, three of Vilma’s classic films will be shown on Feb. 5 at the UP Film Institute as part of the activities of the university’s national Arts Month. They newly restored films are: Anak directed by Rory B. Quintos, Kapag Langit ang Umusig by Lauyrice Guillen and Bata, Bata, Paano Ka Ginawa? by Chito Roño.
According to Nonoy Lauzon, it’s UP’s way of commemorating the art and career of Vilma who was the first UP Gawad Plaridel Awardee (photo) for Film in 2005 and earlier the recipient of the UP Film Institute’s Diwata Award for Distinguished Achievement in Women’s Cinema. It’s also the homecoming of Bata, Bata since it premiered in UP in 1998.
