Papa Jack: The camera shy love guru

MANILA, Philippines- He may be loud on his radio show True Love Conversation, but John S. Gemperle or popularly known as Papa Jack is shy in person, especially in front of the camera.

“May nerbyos po talaga ako sa harap ng camera,” he shyly said when he faced the entertainment press for the press conference of his TV5 show “Call Me Papa Jack.”

This is not the first time for him to do a TV show since he hosted “Star Box” with Ali Sotto before.

“Call Me Papa Jack” will have similarities with his radio show, and he said this is no issue with Manila Broadcasting Company, the owner of Love Radio where he works.

“Kahit kailan po hindi naging issue sa Manila Broadcasting Company na magkaro'n kami ng raket sa labas. Never po nilang pinigilan 'yong growth namin,” he said.

On the first half of the TV show, he'll be accepting callers and will be listening to their love problems. He will then be joined by celebrity guests on the second part of the show, where they'll discuss the guest's and the caller's heart problems.

With the number of people who seek his advice, some wonders where he gets all those words of wisdom. Yet he clarified that “hindi po pagpapayo ang talent ko talaga. The first thing I do when I talk to someone is I create profile and timeline.”

He said when the caller is narrating his or her story, he is making a timeline and profile of the person by asking questions from time to time.

“Naniniwala po ako na kapag may nagkuwento sa akin ng love problem, they're just telling me fragments of what they remember sa kabuuan ng pagkakataon na naranasan nila 'yon,” he said.

“Mostly kapag nagkuwento po sila, ang kinukuwento po nila kung saan lang sila nasaktan, nakakalimutan nilang sumaya rin sila. So it's my duty na tignan 'yong kabuuan.”

“Call Me Papa Jack” premiers on January 24, Saturday, 10 p.m. with Manila Vice-Mayor Isko Moreno as guest.
