Boonie Bears at SM Cinemas

The 3D animated film will premiere in the Philippines on Jan. 21

MANILA, Philippines - Boonie Bears To The Rescue, the 3D animated movie that has taken China by storm, will open on Jan. 21 at SM cinemas. Boonie Bears To The Rescue is based on the 2012 animated series Boonie Bears, which has enjoyed popularity among children in China.

The TV series centers on three main characters — a lumberjack called Logger Vick and two bear brothers called Briar and Bramble. Each episode shows Logger Vick’s attempts to log the timber in the forest and the bear brothers’ attempts to stop him.

In the movie, Logger Vick accidentally retrieves a mysterious box that threatens the peace of the forest. He must team up with the bear brothers, and the three must now overcome their differences and work as a team to defeat the mysterious evil mastermind.

Boonie Bears To The Rescue opened to phenomenal success at the Chinese box-office, surpassing the likes of Despicable Me 2 and Meet the Pegasus, a spin-off of the popular Chinese animation franchise Pleasant Goat and Big Bad Wolf.

It raked in a total of $16.69M on its opening weekend alone, setting a new record for best opening weekend for a Chinese animated film, beating out the 2012 Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf franchise’s Mission Incredible: Adventures on the Dragon’s Trail, which made $12.06M on its opening weekend.

Boonie Bears To The Rescue is projected to earn over $49.59M as crowds continue to flock to theaters to see its beloved characters. Now, Filipino audiences will get the chance to see it and catch the Boonie Bears fever as well.

Boonie Bears To The Rescue was produced by China’s Fantawild Animation, Inc. and directed by Ding Liang and Fuyuan Liu. It features the voice talents of Rick Jay Glen, Siobhan Lumsden and Paul “Maxx” Rinehart. It is distributed in the Philippines by Octoarts Films.
