Jennylyn shrugs off naysayers over MMFF best actress award

Chuck Smith - The Philippine Star
MANILA, Philippines - “Syempre hindi naman natin mapi-please lahat ng tao.”

Thus said Jennylyn Mercado when asked to comment on naysayers who criticized her Best Actress win for her role in “English Only, Please” at the recently concluded 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Awards Night.

It can be recalled that Rina Navarro, one of the producers of “Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo,” questioned the MMFF Awards Night results

In a TV interview, Navarro said she believes “Bonifacio” stars Robin Padilla and Vina Morales should have won the MMFF Best Actor and Best Actress awards.

In an interview during the press conference of GMA-7‘s upcoming drama series “Second Chances” on Wednesday, the 27-year-old actress said she does not want to comment further regarding those who do not believe she deserves the acting award.

“Kanya-kanyang opinyon yan. Kahit ako may sariling opinyon,” she said.

Jennylyn added: “Sa akin, okay lang (ang negative comments). Kumbaga, ganun talaga. Merong negative reactions. Hindi natin maiiwasan lalo na sa industry na ito.”

“Sanayan na lang yun,” she further said.

She also expressed surprised for winning an acting award for a role in a romantic comedy.

It can be remembered that Jennylyn starred in the 2010 period drama “Rosario,” which was also part of the Metro Manila Film Festival for that year. But she lost to Ai Ai delas Alas for her role in the comedy movie “Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last Na To).”

“Sobrang nagulat kami. Sabi nga namin, masaya na kami sa masayahan ang mga tao. Pero hindi, na-in love sila sa love team namin. So sumobra pa sa expectation. Thankful kami,” she said.

Jennylyn revealed another movie with her “English Only, Please” co-star Derek Ramsay is in the works for 2015.

“Maganda siya para maiba,” she said of her “instant love team” with TV5 star Derek. “Kasi di ba, hindi yung puro na lang galing sa network namin. Maganda yung may ibang variety or ibang flavor naman.”

The actress is part of “Second Chances,” a primetime drama series with Raymart Santiago, Camille Prats and Rafael Rosell.

“Second Chances” premieres on Monday, January 12 on GMA-7.
