MANILA, Philippines - The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) announced that donations could be made to the Miss Universe Cordaid Relief Fund to support thousands of Typhoon Ruby victims and provide long-term in aid to build and rebuild communities battered by the typhoon over the weekend.
“Our hearts go out to the people of the Philippines, the home to some of our most passionate fans,” stated Paula Shugart, MUO president. “Cordaid has done a tremendous job to create a more resilient area since Typhoon Ruby hit and has helped those with inadequate shelter to build and maintain storm proof homes.
“We are committed to ensuring an immediate response to Typhoon Ruby), to continuing to raise awareness and funds for long term recovery, and to strengthening the resilience of the people in these communities.”
Cordaid has constructed dams, reinforced bridges and constructed storm-proof homes, nurseries, and community centers over the past year.
Ron Langford, Cordaid manager in the Philippines, said, “The preparedness activities with the communities and local organizations are really going well, better than I expected. I observe that we have already strengthened their capacities to deal with a typhoon.”
