MANILA, Philippines- There are a lot of firsts for Jennylyn Mercado and Derek Ramsay in their Metro Manila Film Festival entry “English Only Please.”
This is the first time that they will work together and do a romantic-comedy. Jennylyn usually do dramatic films, while Derek mostly portrays sexy characters.
In a previous interview with Philstar.com, Derek said he will be able to showcase his versatility as an actor in the film.
“Other people are saying na, 'naghuhubad lang ng shirt 'yan kaya pumapatok,' but people don't see my versatility as an actor,” he said. “Dito magpapakita pa rin ako ng balat, but in a funny way. It's not 'yong talagang sexy, parang we're actually mocking that.”
Meanwhile, Jennylyn said it's “refreshing” to portray a very light role especially since she's similar with the character she is playing when it comes to “expression, kung paano magsalita, gumalaw, gano’n na gano’n. Kasi ‘yong ako kung makikita n’yo sa totoong buhay ganito, simple, T-shirt, loud talaga.”
When asked what makes their film different from the other entries this year, Jennylyn replied “iba ang story kasi interesting siya, kasi kung anong nangyayari sa totoong buhay, kung anong nangyayari sa buhay ng tao makaka-relate mga tao.”
Joining Jennylyn and Derek are Bianca King, Kean Cipriano, Isabel Frial, and Cai Cortex. The movie is directed by Dan Villegas and produced by Quantum Films and Heaven's Best Entertainment.
