Gintong Palad Public Service Awards Night
MANILA, Philippines - The Movie Writers Welfare Foundation (MWWF) held its second Gintong Palad Public Service Awards Night on Nov. 29 at the Ilustrado Function Room.
MWWF, which was founded in 1998, is a non-profit organization which aims to promote, enhance and improve the welfare of the entertainment press in the Philippines. It has been holding regular medical and dental missions for the entertainment press and the less fortunate in Metro Manila and the nearby provinces and has dispensed funeral assistance and medical emergency financial aids to several of its members and their immediate families.
Faith Cuneta, who has popularized several telenovela theme songs, and Miguel Castro together with the Filipino Pop Tenors livened up the evening to everyone’s delight. The event was conceptualized and directed by Louie Ignacio of GMA 7.
The Gintong Palad Public Service awardees, a brainchild of MWWF president Emy Abuan, are individuals who stood out because of their dedication to reach out to people to help every time calamities strike or where they see poverty and misery amongst communities. This year’s honorees include Rev. Fr. Joey Faller of the Kamay ni Hesus Foundation and Boots Anson-Roa of MOWELFUND for religious and non-sectarian institutions; philanthropist Dr. James Dy of the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center for Hospital Management and Humanitarian Service; Miguel Belmonte of the Star Group of Companies; and Wilson Tieng of Solar Entertainment, Inc. for Business; Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas, Sen. Tito Sotto, PAO Chief Persida Acosta and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista for government, Arnold Clavio, Vicky Morales, Daniel Razon, Erwin, Raffy and Ben Tulfo, and Mel Tiangco for broadcasting; and Imelda Papin, Ricky Reyes, Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, Piolo Pascual, Angel Locsin, Jorge “ER” Ejercito and Robin Padilla for entertainment.
