These days, Diego Loyzaga is all over the place — but in a good way. Diego’s career has been taking him to different networks, although he clarifies that he remains a Kapamilya. After he did Mirabella for ABS-CBN, he signed on to appear in the second installment of TV5’s Wattpad Presents anthology.
“My project for TV5 was titled Mr. Popular Meets Ms. Nobody and kasama ko doon sina Mark Neumann and Shaira Mae,” he says. “I was the best friend of Kyle, played by Mark, and I like Chelsea, the character of Shaira. My character was super martyr. Ako yung palaging umaasa at palaging umiintindi. But it was fun.”
According to Diego, part of what made his TV5 experience so much fun was getting to meet new people. “Our set was fun,” he shares. “I met many new actors, directors and production people, and they were all very welcoming. Nakasundo ko sila lahat kaagad. Actually, I was surprised na nag-click kaming lahat agad. Given the chance, I’d love to do another project with them — with Mark, Shaira and even our director Jay Altarejos.”
Diego remains open to the possibility of doing more shows for TV5 as long as he’s allowed to do so by his handlers at Star Magic, ABS-CBN’s talent management arm. However, he’s eager to do another project for the Kapamilya network. “I had fun working at TV5. I’m just happy I got the opportunity to work with new people. At the end of the day, I just want more projects whether it’s outside ABS or not. But I’m hoping for another show with ABS.”
Diego has had a lot of opportunities to meet and work with artists from other networks lately. Aside from acting, he’s also a product endorser for clothing brand BUM Equipment, along with his fellow Star Magic talents Ella Cruz, Jane Oineza and Nash Aguas. Diego has been with the brand for about seven months and he recently welcomed GMA 7 artists Bianca Umali and Miguel Tanfelix into the BUM Equipment family.
“I love having more people in the group,” Diego enthuses. “Of course, the more the merrier, ‘di ba? One big happy family kami sa BUM. I love the clothes and I love the people I get to work with as an endorser.”
Speaking of family, Diego shares that he’s thought about following in the footsteps of his father, actor Cesar Montano with whom he’s reportedly slated to do a movie sometime soon. “Yeah, I’ve thought about it. Of course, I’d love to do that. Gusto ko rin makilala as an action star but since action isn’t really the ‘in’ or uso na genre sa industry ngayon, I guess I’ll just have to wait. In God’s time, maybe. I believe God will provide me with the right opportunities.”
Diego — whose mother is actress Teresa Loyzaga — is determined to live up to his parents’ legacy in the industry but he’s also looking to carve out his own niche. He’s thinking about pursuing other things aside from acting. “I plan on being a host or maybe a singer. Not a lot of people know I can also sing. Sana mabigyan din ako ng chance to do that.”
On the surface, Diego seems pretty happy with the way his career is going but he says he gets frustrated from time to time. He knows he could be tackling bigger, more challenging roles given the chance. He believes one chance is all he needs to prove his true mettle as an actor — and to that end, he’s been hitting the audition circuit in the hope of finding that one project that could change his career for the better.
“I do feel like I could be doing a whole lot more with my time that’s why I’m really happy that I have all these auditions lined up,” Diego says. “I’m really hoping na makuha ako sa mga projects that I’m trying out for. Like I said, I know makikilala rin ako bilang magaling na artista in God’s time.”
