Gerald is Calungsod

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – San Pedro Calungsod The Musical is the maiden venture of the RedLife Entertainment Productions headed by Loven Red and Bem Red Reyes. It’s a big-budgeted musical production topbilled by the Prince of Ballad, Gerald Santos (photo) as Pedro Calungsod.

Set for tour in December, the musical traces the life of our second Filipino saint, San Pedro Calungsod from his roots in the Visayas to his untimely death in the Ladrones Islands, now known as Guam. It’s a powerful musical that hopes to serve as a tool for evangelism and strengthen the faith of the believers. RedLife has committed itself to creating quality productions that will make great impact on Filipino lives, particularly the students.

The musical features 15 original songs by Rommel Ramilo (lyrics) and Elmer Blancaflor (music). It showcases the beautiful yet powerful voice of Gerald who will do his third musical play in three years. As a theater actor, Gerald has proven his worth, having been nominated as Best Actor in a musical in the 2011 Aliw Awards.

Gerald has four major songs in the musical, most noteworthy of which is The Journey, the musical’s main theme. In fact, a music video for the song was produced by RedLife which included difficult underwater scenes of Gerald. The music video was directed by LA Madridejos while the underwater scenes were directed by Jess Lapid Jr.

The musical gathers some of the best in the theater industry. Character actor, John Achaval plays Father Diego San Vitores and Shyr Valdez as the mother of Pedro Calungsod.  Choreography is by Vivian Blancaflor.
