Presenting lots of Joey Albert
Joey Albert has not only grown lovelier with the years. The singer behind phenomenal sellers like Tell Me, A Million Miles Away, Iisa Pa Lamang and Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin is now a proud and gorgeous golden girl.
But rather than rest on her laurels she has only grown busier. Truth to tell, I do not know how Joey does it. She effortlessly divides her time among the roles of wife, mother, singer and that of teacher Joey to pre-schoolers at the Good Shepherd Day Care Center she owns in Coquitlam, British Columbia in Canada.
As a result, you often find her rushing home from a performing tour of US and Canadian cities with either Raymond Lauchengco or Dennis Lambert. Then she will be packing a daughter off to L.A. or the Middle East in the next breath. All that while also putting together a field trip for her little kids at day care. Then she will have some well-deserved “we” time with her husband Ting Pacis. Then in a day or two, the cycle will begin again with another round of shows… And she is happy.
On occasion she will make some extra effort to come home and spend time with her family here. Maybe she’ll sleep in her old room at her mother’s house and be a daughter again. Maybe she will hark back to those days of her success here as a song artist, do a show or two and once more sing her enduring hits. Then she will go back to Canada, content and eager for the next round to begin again.
This week finds Joey back home in the Philippines ready to revisit her catalogue of hits for her loyal fans. They can catch her live at the Eclipse Entertainment Lounge of the Solaire Resorts & Casinos on Nov. 19 assisted by Marvin Querido at the keyboard. The next evening, Thursday, Nov. 20, will find her at the Music Hall in Metrowalk, Ortigas, again singing her hits accompanied by Archie Castillo. Prepare to reminisce with I Remember The Boy, Forevermore, You Threw It All Away, Kahit Isang Saglit and many other songs.
But before all that, she will join Pilita Corrales and her group of music icons for A Million Thanks To You, the Duets concert at the Fiesta Pavillion of the Manila Hotel, tomorrow, Nov. 13. It will be a tuneful gathering with Pilita’s singing partners in her new Duets album. Joey and Pilita will do the big hit Tell Me. Also set to be present will be Basil Valdez, Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez, Chad Borja, The CompanY and Sarah Geronimo.
Joey will be back in Coquitlam to prepare for the Christmas holidays with her family and her kiddies after the series of shows. It will be a merry time that should give her some breathing room to prepare for her next big trip to Manila.
Joey will be back in town come February to join her friends from the New Minstrels and the Circus Band for another reunion show of ’70s and ’80s hits at the Plenary Hall of the PICC. And that as everybody who has seen the group perform already knows will be another blockbuster.
There is just no let up for pretty Joey. Who knows one of these days she might even find time to record an album or do a TV show. This girl works hard at everything she does and is rightly proud of them all.
More shows by Pinoy artists
Still on shows by Pinoy talents. The 70s Superband once more did the country proud with a successful series of shows in London, Bradford and Shrewsbury in the UK last September. The Filipino band did four performances and once again wowed Pinoys in Big Ben city with their rendition of Manila Sound songs, dance tunes and classic love songs that had everybody begging for more.
Now that the band is home again, its local fans can catch its members in the following shows: At the Cardinal Jaime Sin Gym on Nov. 15; the Hard Rock Café Makati for the PGH Medical Foundation fundraiser, Nov. 27; and the Apo View Hotel in Davao for Samadhi, the Davao Musicians Association, Dec. 6.
The 70s Superband is made up of Nonoy Tan, Rey Matoto, Monet Gaskell, Snafu Rigor, Mon Espia and the brothers Jun and Nitoy Mallillin. They were all members of hit-making bands from the ’70s and ’80s era like Wadab, VST&Company, Cinderella, Labuyo and Abrakadabra.
Now for roll-in-the aisle comedy evenings with some music thrown in, you can watch Pilipinasyon, The Jon Santos Show Live at the Music Hall in Metrowalk, Ortigas on Nov. 14 and 15. Jon is the super talented comic, actor and impersonator. I do not know whom he will bring along to the Music Hall shows. Will it be Ate Vi, Sherap, Mommy D or whoever he has cooked up? But no matter who Jon brings along, everybody will surely have a good time. For details, call 451-1786 or 470-2222.
