Hair Asia set for 2014 Salon Spectacular
MANILA, Philippines - For 24 years, Hair Asia’s drawing power is undisputed as evidenced by the thousands who patronize its bi-annual events year in and year out. Its loyal following continues to grow. Just last March, its annual hair and make-up competition, National Open Championship, drew over 9,000 patrons, competitors and exhibitors to the World Trade Center.
Who would have thought that Hair Asia, which saw its beginnings as a glossy beauty magazine back in 1989, would one day be a powerhouse in the Philippine salon professional industry? Today, Hair Asia organizes two annual hair and make-up competitions — the National Open Championship for Hair and Makeup and Salon Spectacular — which are considered the most prestigious of its kind, recognition from which is highly coveted.
With the remarkable sway that Hair Asia holds among Filipino hairdressers, it is no wonder that its sphere of influence has rippled through various other sectors of the industry. For over two decades, Hair Asia’s endeavors have been staunchly backed by industry giants like L’Oréal Professionnel, Schwarzkopf, Elgon and Cynos. Trust from these drivers of industry does not come easy.
Via Hair Asia’s Cosmetic Expo, held simultaneously with the competitions, emergent players looking to break into the market, as well as seasoned players looking to introduce new products, has found an avenue through which they can obtain relevant and worthwhile exposure. As Hair Asia events attract retailers, business proprietors and company buyers, the benefits from exposure during a Hair Asia event can far outweigh the already considerable on-the-day sales for many of the exhibitors.
But Hair Asia’s Evelyn Alvaran-Cruz has much in store for the Philippine hairdressing industry yet. Talks are already underway with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for a partnership that will be a fitting benchmark in Hair Asia’s road to silver.
In the coming months, Hair Asia, in partnership with DTI, will hold an event that goes beyond the borders of hair and make-up to encompass a wider sector of the beauty industry. The event will include elements that involve health and wellness; beautrition (beauty + nutrition) that will introduce alternative and/or organic food options; shows in fashion to demonstrate the intricate relationship between beauty and fashion and the importance of achieving a unified overall look; and diverse other beauty related enterprises.
Overall champion will get a chance to take home P500,000 worth of salon showcase from industry partners L’Oreal Professionnel, Matrix, DKCCO, MTN Esthetique Supplies, Handle Enterprise and LBY Enterprises.
Salon Spectacular 2014 is set on Nov. 11 at the World Trade Center which takes the idea of a Magical Christmas quite like the vision of a winter village romantically cloaked with gently fallen snow. Hair Asia will transform the halls of the World Trade Center into a white whimsical wonderland.
