Nik Wallenda completes death-defying tightrope walk blindfolded

MANILA, Philippines - Daredevil Nik Wallenda gave the whole world another reason to feel the thrill this Halloween.

“The King of the Wire” left Chicago and the world in awe Sunday with two skyscraper crossings on a tightrope without a safety net or a harness.

The 35-year-old who now holds a total of 9 Guinness World Records completed the back-to-back walks on a wire that was 3/4-inch thick using only a pole for balance.

It took him about six and a half minutes to walk the 454-foot (138-meter) stretch at a 19-degree incline from the Marina City west tower to the top of a building on the other side of a river.

After incredibly completing the first challenge, he took another one – this time, blindfolded. In little more than a minute, he did a 94-foot (28-meter) walk between the two Marina City towers, Chicago landmarks.

The bone-chilling event was captured live on Discovery Channel.

A year before Wallenda was born, his great-grandfather, Karl Wallenda,  who was then 73,  fell to his death during a tightrope stunt. Wallenda first stepped on a wire when he was just two years old. He is also the first person to walk across the Grand Canyon on a wire in June 2013.
