What Taytay has to offer

Albert Einstein once said, “Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.”

In the case of Nicky Andres, a successful entrepreneur and true-blooded native of Taytay, Rizal, it’s giving opportunity for her townmates to earn, do viable business and showcase what Taytay has to offer.

Nicky says Taytay is very progressive despite being a laid-back municipality. “Andun pa rin yung probinsya. But it is booming. Gusto ko mapakita what Taytayenos have and what we can do.”

Taytay is close to Cainta, Pasig and Taguig City and it is accessible from various points of Metro Manila. It is considered as the “Woodworks and Garments Capital of the Philippines.” Taytay is ranked as the 10th Most Competitive Municipality in the 2014 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness. It is one of the fast-rising communities where opportunities abound.

Thus born the idea for the first Taytay Grand Bazaar, which will open on Nov. 17. The stalls are strategically spread on a five thousand-square-meter vacant lot in Manila East Road near SM Taytay which is very accessible via Ortigas Avenue. The bazaar is bigger than Greenhills with 600 stalls for RTWs, furniture, gadgets, toys, shoes, bags, among others. If you’re in the party mood, there will be live band entertainment at night until 3 a.m. It is shopping without the Metro traffic.

Prior to her Taytay project, Nicky tried her luck abroad. Her search for the elusive pot of gold led her to the nightlife in Saipan and Guam where she helped set up various bars and music lounges as a top-notch bartender and manager. At 30, she became financially independent. The wanderlust in her brought her to Dubai where she worked at the Hilton Dubai Creek. In Dubai, she runs and owns two well-known Filipino entertainment centers, Stallion Bar and Comedy Junction. She established Dragon Star Decors that offers carpentry and flooring services. She also put up wellness centers for men and owns a flower shop, among other business ventures. She then brought her bar ventures to Qatar and Bahrain.

Amid all the success, Nicky never forgets to help the needy. She helped the Philippine Consulate countless times in sending back home a number of abused OFWs and financially-distressed kababayan.

In an interview with a magazine a couple of years ago, Nicky said she doesn’t worry in losing investments because, for her, money is not essential. “What is important is that I know my family and my loved ones are already secured; that I have helped a lot of people. I want to help more. It motivates me most when I see the happy faces of my crew and the people I have helped.”

Nicky is now on her way to become one of the bigger players in the bazaar business with Taytay Grand Bazaar. The Honorable Mayor of Taytay, Janet de Leon Mercado, will cut the ceremonial ribbon. Entertainment numbers will be provided by surprise celebrity guests.
