Sheila plays dream role in Shrek
MANILA, Philippines - Sheila Valderama (photo) has topbilled musical theater productions here and abroad over the years — playing Cinderella in Broadway Asia’s production and playing cover for Lea Salonga, doing Anna Leonowen’s role in Resorts World Manila’s The King and I, breathing life to Julia Sullivan (female lead of 9Works Theatrical’s production of Wedding Singer), among others.
Now, Sheila, who is being managed by STAGES, is about to fulfill one of her dreams — to play the female lead Princess Fiona in the upcoming Atlantis’ production of Shrek.
“Princess Fiona has always been one of my dream roles, so I’m having the best time of my life right now,” shares Sheila. “I got dizzy and teared up when I found out I got the role. I’m very thankful!”
Asked to describe her role, she says, “Princess Fiona is quirky, tomboyish and bi-polar. All effects of living alone in a tower for 20 years without the proper upbringing of a Princess, only relying on her storybooks as guide on what a Princess’ destiny should be.”
Sheila adds that the most fun aspect of the role is that she can really play with it, which continuously challenges her.
“Fiona, being my dream role, there are so many ways that I can play the role that I continuously challenge and pressure myself to deliver and exceed my own expectations,” she concludes.
