The New Minstrels Divos repeat at RCBC
MANILA, Philippines - Fresh from its successful debut at The Teatrino last June, The New Minstrels Divos, a new singing group formed by former members of the New Minstrels, will be back in two very special performances. Titled Sincerely, The New Minstrels Divos The Repeat, the show will be held at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium of the RCBC Plaza in Makati on Sept. 13 and Sept. 19.
Composed of Eugene Villaluz, Ding Mercado, Chad Borja and Rene Puno, they have come up with additional numbers to their successful Teatrino show for this return engagement. Audiences will be treated to a Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever medley, the Barry Manilow medley, the ’60s boy band medley, the Broadway medley plus the standard songs that are huge favorites like An Affair To Remember, The Impossible Dream, Morning Girl, Portrait Of My Love, When I Fall In Love, Moon River, I Left My Heart In San Francisco and many others.
Eugene, Ding and Rene were original members of the Minstrels, while Chad was a fourth-generation member of the group. The New Minstrels was the top showband during the ’70s era, performing to packed houses here and abroad and making hit recordings. Among the latter were the now iconic versions of the Filipino classics Buhat and Balut.
Eugene, Ding and Chad went on to successful solo careers. Eugene had hit songs like Gulong Ng Palad and Nothing I Want More with fellow Minstrel Louie Reyes. Ding became a big star on Hong Kong TV. Chad continues to record (Ikaw Lang was his biggest seller) and perform.
Eugene, Ding and Chad have been very active performing together these past few years as part of the very successful Circus Band and New Minstrels Reunion concert series.
Rene also recorded and performed solo after leaving the New Minstrels but decided instead to pursue a law career. He is now the managing partner of the law firm of Zulueta, Puno and Associates. The New Minstrels Divos concert marks his official return to performing.
